As previously mentioned, there are 12 houses in our ascendant chart. So, each house has a significator known as a Karaka. A Karaka is basically the designated officer for handling a certain department. I have listed the Karakas or Significators of each house below.
- 1st house (self, soul, constitution, etc.) – the Sun
- 2nd house (family, finance, money) – Jupiter
- 3rd house (courage, siblings, etc.) – Mars
- 4th house (residence, domestic happiness, fixed assets) – the Moon
- 5th house (relationships, progeny or children) – Jupiter
- 6th house (debts, enemies, health issues) – Mars
- 7th house (marriage, marital happiness) – Venus
- 8th house (longevity) – Saturn
- 9th house (fortunes, religion, etc.) – Jupiter
- 10th house (career, profession) – Mercury
- 11th house (elder siblings, profits, gains) – Jupiter
- 12th house (losses, expenditure, isolation) – Saturn
*Note that Rahu and Ketu do not have any traditional houses assigned to them, but Rahu performs well in the 6th house and Ketu performs well in the 12th house. A planet in its Karaka Sthana (house of Significator) will give good results if it is in a good zodiac sign placement (exaltation, own sign or friendly sign).
